Recommended Tours

Portland offers a number of exciting and informational organized tours throughout the city and its environs, but the beauty of this city lies in the way it lends itself to invention. Given one day here, you will likely stumble upon a "tour" of your own creation.

Downtown
The Downtown area offers many attractions. The Portland Oregon Visitor's Association (POVA) is right across the street from Waterfront Park. Stroll along the seawall, splash in the fountains and visit the Portland Saturday Market. Dine at the Mother's. The monument Portlandia is also nearby.

Portland Art Museum
The sidewalk on Yamhill Street is called Street Wise, and is full of public art. Take in the nearby Soaring Stone Sculptures. There is always people-watching opportunities at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Continue toward the South Park Blocks to find out what is happening at the Portland Art Museum or the Oregon History Center. Stop at the Heathman Restaurant and Bar and dine alfresco while soaking in the city's atmosphere.

Columbia Gorge and Mount Hood
See the spectacular Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood. Pack a lunch and head east on Interstate 84, stopping at Multonamah Falls with its stunning scenery and wonderful hiking trails. Timberline Lodge and the Timberline Ski Area are on the way, both open year round. The next stop is Government Camp where you can learn the story of the pioneers who followed the Oregon Trail.

Astoria
Pack a lunch and head west on U.S. Highway 26. You'll pass Lewis and Clark State Park and Fort Clatsop National Memorial. Continue on to Astoria, the oldest settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. Move down the coast to touristy Seaside. After grabbing some lunch and spending all of your quarters on the boardwalk, it is time to move on to Cannon Beach, a quiet community that is home to many unique shops and restaurants.

Tillamook
Tillamook is home of the legendary Tillamook Cheese Factory, where you can sample delicious Tillamook ice cream and award-winning cheeses. The nearby Tillamook Dairy Farm also offers tours. South from here is Lincoln City. Stop in and have some fun and dine at Chinook Winds Casino.

Visitors manage to find plenty of Portland highlights on their own, while organized tours offer a unique perspective you cannot find elsewhere. This can also help visitors to tour the variety of sights in style.
